Over the coming weeks we will release an exciting and varied programme, with pieces by Pietro A Yon, Mendelssohn, Buxtehude, Stanford, Vierne and more...

Naturally, we were saddened not to be able to welcome John Dixon back to the school in July for a concert of his own compositions. However, he has kindly forwarded details of an event from The American Guild of Organists (AGO) that may be of interest to our supporters.
This week, between 20th July and 24th July, the AGO will run their first online OrganFest. Through videos released each day, the series will broadcast performances by Jens Korndörfer, Amanda Mole, Alan Morrison, Thomas Ospital, and Catherine Rodland, alongside additional performances by recent international organ competition winners. More information on this exciting (and free!) initiative, including links to each day's programmes and videos, may be found on the festival website.
John is also sharing a score for one of his compositions as part of the OrganFest, which some of you may be interested in to whet your appetite ahead of when we can welcome John back to Southend to perform!

Arrangements for our formal Annual General Meeting are deferred until further notice, in line with guidance from the Charity Commission of England and Wales and the Government. However, the online update will cover the same set of reports from Committee members on the Society's activities, operations and finances, and offer an opportunity to ask questions of the Committee.

As part of the preparations for the concert by internationally acclaimed musician and OSOS President Adrian Lucas to celebrate the rebuilding of the school organ, we interviewed Adrian on his time at school, his career since then, and the recent work and activities of the Organ Society.
On June 16th 2018 Adrian will give the inaugural professional event on the organ, with a celebration of the achievements that have led to the successful rebuild. Tickets are now available for this event via TicketSource, and booking is highly recommended.
We are excited to confirm that on April 19th 2018, we will have our first preview of the rebuilt War Memorial Organ at Southend High School for Boys with an event featuring the organ alongside school, student and recent leaver performers and with varied instruments and voice. Come on Saturday 16th June 2018 at 7pm for an event not to be missed from OSOS: internationally acclaimed musican and organist Adrian Lucas (OSOS President and former pupil) will be exploring the rebuilt organ at Southend High School for Boys. More information to follow on our events page.
We are also very excited to announce that the organ will be expanded with a Trombone stop using pipework previously in use in Pershore Abbey within an organ by Nicholson, now enabling the completion of the specification envisaged when the rebuild commenced. We are pleased to announce that, since June 2017, a major project to professionally rebuild the organ, which aims to secure its future well into its second century, is under way! After the great success of the organ's expansion with reed, flute and mutation stops added to the Great keyboard, we are pleased to announce that work has commenced to add a pair of string stops to the Swell keyboard.
These quiet but incisive string-toned pipes will add yet another distinctive sound to the organ's specification. We are hopeful that work will continue in 2016 - listen out for some new sounds from the organ later on in the year!
